You Were Willing

Not so long ago, we were completely covered in darkness. The light from the sun powerless, overcome by the clouds.

Clouds of rejection due to my imperfections.

Clouds of isolation because in the eyes of men, I had nothing worthy of adoration.

Clouds that brought no rain to this drought in my heart, my skin scorched and falling apart, pronouncing me “unclean."

But,

Because You were willing,

Your eyes saw past my flaws, past the walls around my heart, so hardened

You saw me for who I really am and offered to carry all that has me burdened

Your lens filtering out the guilt and the shame that’s on the surface, searching for but a spark that will suffice to start a fire that will mould me into Your image

And yet, here we are using nothing but mockery to pay You homage

Because You were willing,

Your ears heard the cries from the very depths of my soul…and You glided past the maze of my tightly wound up emotions and found me deep in a hole.

Because You were willing, You got pinned like a shopping list of all the souls You came to buy

You traded Your life for the soul I sold and breathed the last of the very breath You gave me, on a wooden pole.

You said You were willing, and You touched me.

You laid your clean hands on my leprous skin!

You touched me and cleansed me, and brought healing upon me, knowing that You're the One we’d be killing……but still, You were willing!

How could this be? That should have been me on that cross. Me who has lived in sin.

No good deeds and nothing but seeds of sin blooming and giving root to weeds that You uprooted when You shone Your light on my soul so gloomy…..simply because You were willing!

Because You were willing, You touched me!

And now, all my chains are broken. I am free!

All my shame crumbled. All my guilt gone!

All my fears trampled. All my tears counted.

My doubts subdued! My Faith renewed!

My hope restored. I am refreshed. I’ve been reborn!

All because You were willing to touched me.

You truly were Your father’s son, who spoke life into existence. "Let there be,” and there was.

Your words gave life. Water to the thirsty, food to the hungry, like oases in a desert.

All because of pure love. All because You were willing.
