Scripture & Candy - How God Used My Mother To Ruin My Lustful Plans

There's nothing like a mother's love for her children. It's the kind of love that covers and completely decimates the morning sickness, hormonal changes, cravings and labor pains previously endured. It amuses me to see the things a mother does when playing with her baby after all of that; the "apuchu"s and "googoo gaga"s. It's cute and heart warming to witness. Gusa nyine, many of the children grow up and remind them of the labor pains endured. It's not easy raising a child. However, a mother's love grows through it all as well. And it goes beyond just cuddling and taking care of your every need, being there for you in any possible way. It goes all the way to the spiritual realm.

Ever since my mother got saved, to this day, she prays every single night. She tirelessly prays for her family and loved ones without fail. She presents her pleas to God, naming each and every one she's praying for. I know that my journey to Christ was majorly caused by her lifting me up to God. God heard her and hatched up the plan to pull my ears and pay attention to Him. He wasn't going to let her down, and I'm glad I didn't ignore Him. I'm the one who'd have missed out. It was all for my good.

One particular story comes to mind when I think of how her prayers covered me when I was living recklessly. I went out to the club one night. As usual, I was puffed up on blunt and sipping on gin and juice, laid back with my mind on my....not money (Few are going to get this...lol). Anyway, I met up with this girl who used to go to the high school near home. She was in the same class with one of my boys who was my neighbour. He'd told me many times that she was feeling a brother and was ready to give it up. Well, there we were dancing the night out years later, and I was ready to take advantage of that. So we planned a rendezvous at her hostel (University).

The morning of the "Big" day, I was excited and looking forward to the evening. Confidence was all high, ready to.... But my praying mother, people. God used her to disrupt my plan. I woke up after she'd already left for work. I went to have breakfast and there on the table, was a Bible. I don't remember if there was a bookmark or if she'd left it open, or if she'd marked the piece of scripture she wanted me to read. It was Proverbs 7Verses 21-23 caught my eye, to be more specific. Oh no! That wasn't about to be me. First of all, how was it that out of nowhere, Mum left me scripture to read that particular morning? It was unusual. To add to that, scripture that reflected oh so well what I was about to do that evening? Even my boy affirmed, laughing, "Ntugende kabisa (DO NOT GO)!!" I was way ahead of him. I turned my phone off that evening.

There's no telling what would have happened that night, how I'd have been affected. Some of my escapades in my previous life were characterised by loud ringing alarms that I'd not pay attention to. And every single time, I was caught up in traps that only God pulled me out of. I can say that I'm pretty glad I finally surrendered to Him after my last one in 2012, because it was clear that it was the last chance He was giving me. Guess who'd texted me, "I don't know what's happening but it's not good and it's scary. May the blood of Jesus cover you." Mum. Guess what I was up to the moment that she did.. I thank God for her. And I thank God for His grace. I didn't end up where others have ended up, and it wasn't by my doing. It wasn't just luck.

So to the mothers who pray for their children. It's not in vain. God's listening. To the husbands with praying wives, pray for your children with them. For the children with praying mothers, don't take it for granted. You're protected in ways you can't ever imagine. Thank God for our mothers.

Oh..by the way. Mum had left candy right next to the Bible, as if to replace what I thought was candy to be had later that day.

LOL!!!
