Adam saw Eve - How My Heart Sang a New Love Song
Years ago, I remember telling myself after a bad breakup, “I’m done writing and singing songs for girls who won’t end up being my wife,” and vowing that the next and last lady I’d sing a song for and about would be my wife, otherwise I’d keep on singing to any and everybody.
I’d gotten
involved with yet another girl and it didn’t end well, leaving me heartbroken
yet again. I remember breaking down in my bedroom one night. Luckily, no one
was home then. I believe God intended it that way to give me room for a much
needed release, for I bawled my heart out in a fetal position before finally
falling asleep. I slept like a baby that night, and I woke up feeling much
lighter the next morning. I was actually healed.
With time,
after that episode, I slowly realised that the pain that had been ran much
deeper than just a love story not going the way I’d wanted it to. At the roots
was all the heartbreak in the past that I hadn’t dealt with, and that
particular situation was the trigger that made the feelings of rejection come
crashing down.
A few months
later, after my healing, a good friend of mine was getting ready to marry the
love of his life, and he wanted me to write a song with him, which we performed
at his wedding. I didn’t have any sort of real life inspiration when we worked
on it, but I wrote something along the lines of looking up to him and believing
I would find my wife one day as well.
Somehow,
somewhere, the revelation came with the story of Adam and Eve; God put Adam in
a deep sleep and took his rib out and created Eve. When Adam woke up, Eve was
presented to him. His reaction? He recognised her as his rib and flesh of his
flesh, and he sang praises.
What stood
out to me the most was that he was in a DEEP sleep when God prepared his bride
for him. He wasn’t out there searching for her. He was in the garden doing what
God told him to do, and just enjoying life. God Himself looked and decided that
he needed a ‘helper’, and so He provided one.
So, as my
friend and I worked on and performed the song, I was oblivious to the story
that was being written behind the scenes. I guess I was asleep too, and little
did I know that I was about to wake up to the best gift God has given me on
this earth.
I’d simply
reconnected with a friend of mine earlier that year. We hadn’t spoken in a long
time, and what started as checking on an old friend evolved into chatting every
single day, and it was GOOD. However, I was still staying true to myself and
held on to my word to not pursue anyone until God gave me the green light.
But a few
months down the road, we had to lay the cards on the table, and talk about
where things were going. We discussed that if we were going to do this, it
would be for the long haul. We both decided to pray about it, and even took a
day of fasting. On that day, God confirmed to both of us separately that we
were on the right path. How He did so is a story for another time, and what
happened next was the beginning of the next stage of our exciting journey
together.
We ended up getting married, and I was finally able to write a
song for my beautiful wife, just like Adam sang praises when he saw Eve.
